Cobble Hill History est. 2005
Cobble Hill was founded in 2005 with a desire to bring quality puzzles manufactured in North America that inspire a loving, whimsical, nostalgic feeling to jigsaw puzzle enthusiasts, and novices. The company's signature feature has always been its random cut die and quirky piece shapes. It's also recognizable by its linen print texture not only on the puzzle, but on the box as well. Made with high quality blue board using recyclable materials, the puzzles have always been made with the environment in mind.
Truly Original Puzzles
Like other puzzle companies, Cobble Hill licenses images from artists for the majority of its collection. However, in 2010, Cobble Hill tested the waters to see if our Creative Team could design a puzzle that would be a hit with puzzlers. The test was worth it as we created a best selling puzzle that led to us producing dozens more of what we call the Truly Original Puzzle collection.
Teacups 1000 Piece c. 2010
Every teacup was collected either from antique shops or borrowed from grandma and then professionally photographed in a Victoria, BC studio to bring you this best seller. The advantage of creating puzzles in-house is that it allows us to offer our puzzlers something unique that hasn't been licensed many times over to different puzzle companies.
This was our first Truly Original Puzzle to sell over 100,000 units.
Other best selling TOPs are Doughnuts, Ugly X-mas Sweaters, and Grandma's Quilts.
Posters & Package Redesign
Posters were first introduced in 2018. Prior to that, puzzlers assembled the image using only the box cover. However, our logo has always been on the front of the box and while some appreciated the "hidden surprise" below the logo, others wanted that portion of image revealed to aid in completing the puzzle.
Thus, we took the opportunity to redesign the boxes and include posters. Our boxes have always been stylized by colour schemes based on the piece count, but with the redesign we extended the colour treatment from just side panels and trims to enrobing the whole box in its piece count colour. As well, we included a poster so puzzlers could use both the box cover and a reference poster to assemble their puzzle.
c. 2018 vs 2023
In 2018, the puzzle box design changed from including a beige border to being dressed in full colour, as seen here. However, this image shown is from 2023 and you can tell because the poster size is larger than the box.
In 2023, we downsized the packaging and enlarged the poster from 9" x 12" to 10" x 14".
- 2005-2022 box dimensions: 10" x 14" x 2.375"
- 2023 box dimensions: 8.25" x 11.25" x 2"
The 2000 piece puzzles have always been slightly larger. But now the height and width are the same as the other piece counts, but they are deeper at 3.75" and include a larger poster of 17.5" x 12.5"
Now, you have more room on your shelves to stash Cobble Hill puzzles! Trucks can also transport more boxes, we use less materials, and this is all translates to a better environment and economy.

Puzzle Process Pre-Printing
Quality control measures at the factory are important in ensuring puzzlers receive a flawless product. However, before the puzzle is even manufactured, there are several processes the image needs to go through. We invite you to watch a little video featuring our Creative Art Director, Allegra, as she explains how our images are lightened, brightened, cropped, and cleaned before they go to print. This video was created many years ago, so the images seen may not be available.
With an ever growing technological market, it has become increasingly more important to find ways to bring families and friends together in a social atmosphere that lends to good conversations and quality time together. But don't feel guilty if you want to fix the puzzle by yourself...we'll understand why!
Thanks for choosing Cobble Hill puzzles! Enjoy!
